Every time I come across someone expressing anti-asexual sentiments, they always seem so defensive. Like their sexual proclivities are somehow being challenged by the fact that I exist.

I’m not sick or repressed or anti-sex. I don’t care about what you do sexually as long as it doesn’t involve me, thank you very much.

Asexuals don’t have some sort of “Rid the world of sex, everyone must be celibate rawr rawr rawr” agenda, in the same way that homosexuals don’t have a “Everyone must be gay rawr rawr rawr” agenda.

And to all those who are saying “Asexual can only refer to plants!”, you don’t understand how language works. By this logic, homosexuals can’t use ‘gay’ because it should mean ‘happy’ but I don’t see anyone taking exception to this. Also ‘lesbian’, I doubt every lesbian is from Lesbos (a Greek island, Wiki is your friend if you don’t believe me).

Language is constantly shifting. Words fall out of favour and are repurposed for the sake of clarity and expression. We use the word ‘asexual’ because it is the closest representation of the meaning without coining a whole new word. 

Also, you mean asexual reproduction if you’re speaking biologically - it’s a phrase. I don’t think any aces reproduce asexually, but we are asexual in that we don’t need/want a sexual partner. 

So why are people so threatened by asexuals? I’m not telling you not to have sex. You’re perfectly allowed to do whatever you want. So why are you telling me that I must have sex, else I’m not human? Am I not allowed to do what I want to do?

Please stop peddling out the same arguments, anti-asexual people. We’ve heard them all so much that we have perfectly cohesive,intelligent responses.

You’re not going to ‘change my mind’ or ‘cure’ me by repeating the same thing over and over again because I know my mind.

I am not broken. I am not sick. I am not lying. 

I am asexual.

and I’ll thank you to leave me alone about it.

Well, hello there.

Today on Angry Fanboy Sherlock, our inbox was filled with lots of hate. And why? Because Carly was being honest. I don’t understand why people feel the need to do this. You should not judge someone for his or her sexuality.I’m continually astounded by the negative ways people respond to sexual minorities. Perhaps it is just the way I was raised, but I never cared about the sexualities of others. I was taught to be kind to everyone, no matter his or her sexuality, becausesexuality is not a choice.It should not matter to you who someone else is or isn’t attracted to, and it is completely ridiculous that people feel the need to message us with hate.

Really. People are sending us messages saying absolutely horrid things, and all because of us being honest. I can’t even wrap my head around the idea of hating someone because of his or her sexuality, and I really can’t believe that there are people who take the time and effort to message us with hate just because of who we are or aren’t attracted to. And you know what else? The personal posts were under Read Mores. People chose to click “Read More” and then still went through the effort to send hate mail, which makes absolutely no sense at all.

No one is forcing you to click on those links. If you don’t want to read personal posts, then don’t click on “Read More.” Also, you may feel free to click the “unfollow” button at any time.

Carly is perfect, and brave, and you are absolutely terrible for sending hate mail. It is never okay to send hate mail because of someone’s sexuality.

Carly is wonderful and beautiful and I love that she was able to talk about being demisexual. I’m following both of you now, because I want to hear more about what’s going on; I’m discovering my own asexuality, and it helps me to hear about other people’s self-discovery. I think it’s awesome to find yourself like that.
