Someone explain prom dresses to me.
My mom got this little booklet of prom dresses for me awhile back. It was complete poop.
Everything is really trashy and made of cheap fabrics. It all looks like a mermaid and acrylic were fucking, successfully producing mutant dress babies.
Halp.
I refuse to buy the prom issues of magazines for exactly this reason.
Generally speaking, prom dresses are ridiculously ugly. The fabric is cheap and costume-y (and not a good costume-y way at all; a cheap-looking costume-y way), and the silhouettes are always the same and generic and boring. Pretty much the worst and most insulting comment you can get on a dress if you’re a designer is that it looks like a prom or pageant dress.
And they are also overpriced. I am certainly willing to spend a lot of money on quality clothing, but prom dresses are made of cheap material and are not quality at all.
I honestly do not understand why so many people willingly wear these hideous dressed every year. It astounds me. There are so many gorgeous dresses in the world, yet people continue to wear the generic prom dress.
